Structured data
Machine-readable statements about a page’s content, usually as JSON-LD. Its one hard rule is correspondence: it must assert only what the page visibly shows, because structured data that contradicts the page is the strongest signal available, aimed the wrong way.
Also written Schema markup or JSON-LD. Atlas writes British English; the definition is the same.

Why it matters
The consequence, not the conceptVolume is not the goal and is often the defect. Markup describing things the page does not show is a deliberate, machine-readable claim that the page is something it is not, and it is read as exactly that.
