Search visibility
Whether the systems people use to find things can find a brand, read it correctly and attribute it to the right entity — across classic results, AI Overviews, answer engines, marketplace search and branded queries. It is not a ranking. A site can hold position for its own name and still be absent from every surface that assembles an answer instead of listing links.

Why it matters
The consequence, not the conceptIt is the only term wide enough to describe the actual commercial problem. A ranking measures one surface on one day; visibility measures whether the brand exists legibly on all of them — which is how a rankings report improves while nothing downstream of it moves.
